Cairelli CP-2

Brand Universal Geneve
Year 1960’s
Movement Cal. 285P Flyback
Case Steel 40mm

Born in the 1960s from a collaboration between Universal Genève and A. Cairelli of Rome — official supplier to the Italian Air Force — this chronograph was never meant to be a luxury object, but a precise instrument for pilots. Designed under strict military specifications, it features exceptional legibility, a robust oversized case, and most importantly the flyback chronograph function, allowing instant reset during flight operations.

What makes this piece extraordinary is its rarity. While thousands of CP-2s were produced by Zenith, it is estimated that only around 50 to 100 examples were made by Universal Genève, making it one of the rarest military chronographs ever issued.

Even more fascinating, these watches were delivered exclusively to the Aeronautica Militare Italiana, with no true civilian production — a detail that elevates its desirability among top collectors.

This example is preserved in excellent overall condition, showcasing a beautifully aged dial with original luminous material, crisp military engravings, and a strong case that retains its authentic character. The movement is clean and functioning as it should, a testament to the quality of Universal Genève’s chronograph calibers.

A watch that tells a story — not just of time, but of aviation, precision, and Italian history.
